Dr. Marta M Alonso

Researcher, University Clinic of Navarra and Center for the Applied Medical Research University of Navarra

Marta M Alonso is the co-director of the Brain Tumor Group at the Cancer Center of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra. The overreaching goal of her lab is to improve the prognosis of patients with high-risk pediatric brain tumors. To this end, they integrate clinical and lab-based research to develop tumor-targeted oncolytic adenoviruses that elicit a therapeutic immune response in those tumors. Their research novel and relevant models to accomplish the experimental aims. In 2017, the first clinical trial phase I with DNX-2401 for newly diagnosed Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomas (a lethal Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG) pediatric brain tumor) opened propelled by her team. The trial showed feasibility, safety and encouraging efficacy. In their specific approach, they aim to understand the immune microenvironment of DMGs, the response to viral therapy, and the potential resistance mechanism to this approach
